Bird Banding

To encourage park visitors to walk off their bellies full of pancakes and ham, Josh invited one of his college professors from Hocking College to come and band birds at Lowe-Volk Park.  Bob Placier brought his 6 of his mist nets in an attempt to band and record some of the migrating and nesting species of song birds. All in all, despite the rain the evening before and the muddy trails, it was a fairly successful morning. Nine birds were capture and safely released. And since it was International Migratory Bird Day, a tally was kept (though not copiously) on the birds heard and seen otherwise, with about 30 species being recorded.  Janet Creamer, from Indiana, was also on hand to assist Bob with the banding as she is training to become a bander herself. Thanks for the wonderful birding experience Bob and Janet!  Happy Birding!
