Belleville Elementary Comes to Lowe-Volk
Seventy students from Belleville Elementary Kindergarten visited the our park on May 1, to explore the sights and sounds of Lowe-Volk Park. Cindy took the youngsters to the wetland to explore life beneath the surface of the waters. Dragonfly larva, damselfly larva, and of course the main subject of the search, Tadpoles!, were caught as the students dipped and waded through the detritus. Bill took the young naturalists on hike along the Sandusky River as they discovered the various ways to use their senses for nature exploration. And the big Sycamore with its massive roots exposed is always a favorite stop for any hiker! “Marsh Munchers”, an activity from Project Wild Aquatic, helped the kids understand the ways animals in a marsh or wetland interact and rely upon each other in these special ecosystems. Josh showed them different ways to act out the feeding habits of different animals, as they ran around “munching”, collecting tokens from appropriate prey animals. They had a wonderful visit and promised to be back next year!
